Biography

Janis (Jan) P. Bellack, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been President of the MGH Institute of Health Professions since September 2007. Previously, she served for seven years as Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost and Professor of Nursing and Health Sciences at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston. Prior to that, she served as Associate Provost for Education and Professor of Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Studies at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Jan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a senior fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Center for the Health Professions. She has served as consultant and member of the National Program Faculty for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Executive Nurse Fellows Program from 1998-2010, when it was based at the UCSF Center for the Health Professions. She currently serves on the RWJF National Advisory Committee for the Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education program and the Board of Directors Accountability Committee of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Partners Healthcare International, the Center for Medical Simulation, and the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Massachusetts (AICUM).

Jan is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nursing Education and is recognized for her work in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation in nursing and the health professions, health professions leadership and workforce development, and interprofessional education.

Jan received a diploma in nursing at the University of Virginia Hospital School of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia, a master's degree in pediatric nursing from the University of Florida, and her doctoral degree in higher education policy studies from the University of Kentucky.
