Biography

Dr. Jonathan Alpert is Associate Chief of Psychiatry for Clinical Services at MGH and the Joyce R. Tedlow Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is also Co-Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry at Harvard. He is the Associate Director of the MGH Depression Clinical and Research Program and is co-founder and co-director of the Depression and Anxiety Group Practice.

He received his BA and MD from Yale University and his PhD in behavioral pharmacology from the University of Cambridge (UK), where he was a Marshall Scholar. He completed residencies at Boston Children's Hospital and at McLean Hospital before joining the MGH Department of Psychiatry in 1992.

Dr. Alpert is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education, Association for Academic Psychiatry, National Network of Depression Centers, and Massachusetts Psychiatric Society. He is a recipient of the Cynthia Kettyle Teaching Award at Harvard Medical School as well as Psychopharmacology Supervision Awards from trainees of the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency. He has published over 150 original articles and chapters in the areas of depression research, clinical psychopharmacology, and medical education and is editor of the Handbook of Chronic Depression with Maurizio Fava.
