Think:Kids and the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital are pleased to offer an online training program featuring Dr. J. Stuart Ablon. This introductory training provides a foundation for professionals and parents interested in learning the evidence-based approach to understanding and helping children and adolescents with behavioral challenges called Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS). This online training serves as the prerequisite for our professional intensive training.

The CPS approach provides a way of understanding and helping kids who struggle with behavioral challenges. Challenging behavior is thought of as willful and goal oriented which has led to approaches that focus on motivating better behavior using reward and punishment programs. If you’ve tried these strategies and they haven’t worked, this online training is for you! At Think:Kids we have some very different ideas about why these kids struggle. Research over the past 30 years demonstrates that for the majority of these kids, their challenges result from a lack of crucial thinking skills when it comes to things like problem solving, frustration tolerance and flexibility. The CPS approach, therefore, focuses on helping adults teach the skills these children lack while resolving the chronic problems that tend to precipitate challenging behavior.

This training is designed to allow you to learn at your own pace. You must complete the modules sequentially, but you can take your time with the content as your schedule allows. Additional resources for each module provide you with the opportunity for further development. Discussion boards for each module allow you to discuss concepts and your own experiences with other participants. Faculty from the Think:Kids program monitor the boards and offer their point of view.

Registrants will have access to course materials from the date of their registration through the course expiration date.

Mental Health for All: Science-Based Skills to Build Resilience During Stressful Times

This course was created to support all who are feeling the emotional strain of unprecedented and stressful situations. While the COVID-19 pandemic is the genesis for the course, the evidence-based concepts and skills that are illustrated here will promote the healthy emotional coping of anyone who is struggling with chronic stress.

Free

Perhaps you’re trying to adjust to working from home while hearing about neighbors, friends, and colleagues losing their jobs. Maybe you’re doing your best to balance leading your company through difficult strategy decisions and caring for your children while schools are closed. Maybe you’re trying to finish your classes from home while worrying about graduation requirements and making housing payments on time. Or maybe you’re feeling isolated, separated from friends and loved ones.

This course was created to support all who are feeling the emotional strain of unprecedented and stressful situations. While the COVID-19 pandemic is the genesis for the course, the evidence-based concepts and skills that are illustrated here will promote the healthy emotional coping of anyone who is struggling with chronic stress.

The course will be particularly useful for organizations that are concerned about the emotional health of their employees and want to support their teams virtually with stress management strategies. Taking the course in teams will have the added benefit of creating a common language and approach within organizations for addressing mental health challenges among their employees and constituents.

Throughout the course, we strive to answer two essential questions:

  • What is the science behind how we experience stressful situations?
  • How can we build resilience while facing stressful situations?

Note, this course is meant to equip individuals with skills for navigating stressful situations and should not be considered treatment or therapy for clinically significant mental health problems. If you are interested in receiving additional support, the following resources can be used to locate a mental health provider:

Too often, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH, or hemorrhagic stroke) is treated as the forgotten middle child of stroke. Acute ischemic stroke has a number of quality measures associated with it, but too often, clinical providers take a nihilistic approach to hemorrhagic stroke. However, national guidelines exist as well as a wide body of supportive data for specific treatments. The goal of this program is to ensure clinical providers in emergency medicine, neurology, and neurosurgery, are most up to date with ICH management and have clear, actionable protocols that they can take to the bedside.

This course is aimed at those who treat acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This course is ideal for doctors, nurses, physician assistants, NPs, pharmacists, emergency medical services, and any other health care provider in this space. If you work in the emergency department, inpatient unit, stroke unit, intensive care unit, or any other unit that cares for ICH, this course is for you. This course which offers 8 hours of stroke CME, will highlight the things you can do now to reduce the risk of death and improve neurologic outcome for this devastating disease.

We have a dedicated staff member who is available by phone 5 days per week between 8 am and 5 pm by calling 866-644-7792 or email at mghcme@mgh.harvard.edu. All inquiries will be dealt with in a timely  (within one business day) and professional manner.
