With the exception of three years as an inpatient Psychiatrist-in-Charge at McLean Hospital, Dr. Breslin has spent his entire psychiatric career working in the public sector. He completed his internship and psychiatry residency training at The Cambridge Hospital, and worked as an inpatient attending psychiatrist and unit medical director at Westboro State Hospital and Tewksbury Hospital, helping both hospitals adapt elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy to the state hospital setting. He was Chief of Psychiatry at Tewksbury Hospital from 2004 until moving into his current position as Senior Psychiatrist/Area Medical Director in the Northeast Area of the Department of Mental Health (DMH) in 2011. Besides his area-based DMH responsibilities, which include clinical and risk management consultation regarding Northeast Area DMH clients, Dr. Breslin also serves as the principal statewide clinical contact for issues pertaining to the physical health and wellness of the DMH client population. In this capacity, he helped DMH organize the Massachusetts State Leadership Academy for Tobacco-free Recovery in 2016, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, SAMHSA and the UCSF Smoking Cessation Leadership Center.
