Cynthia (Cindy) Moore, PhD is the Associate Director of the Marjorie E. Korff Parenting At a Challenging Time (PACT) program and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.

She joined the PACT program in 2003 and has provided parent guidance to hundreds of adults with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses since then. She teaches locally and nationally about how parents and healthcare professionals can best support children living with a chronically ill parent, conducts research on the specific challenges faced by parents who are managing cancer, and supervises psychology trainees.

Dr. Moore co-authored a handbook for parents that provides specific guidance on communicating with children about crises. “Community Crises and Disasters: A Parent’s Guide to Talking with Children of All Ages” has been shared by the US State Department with its employees, especially among those living abroad who have been affected by terrorist attacks.

A growing interest in supporting people after the loss of a loved one led Dr. Moore to develop expertise in Complicated Grief Therapy. This targeted, evidence-based intervention treats complicated grief in adults, which is characterized by prolonged or intractable sadness, yearning, avoidance, and intrusive thoughts.

She earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. She completed post-doctoral fellowships at the MGH and Harvard Community Health Plan.
