Clinical Consultation

Our consulting psychiatrists offer clinical insight and case-based support to enhance diagnostic accuracy, treatment planning, and interprofessional collaboration. We help teams implement evidence-based practices that promote coordinated and patient-centered care.

Consultation models include:

  • Collaborative care model support
  • Integrated primary care–behavioral health consultation
  • Curbside and real-time clinical consults
  • Second-opinion reviews and treatment recommendations

An MGH “addiction consult team”—hospitalized patients with substance-use disorders who were seen by this team had a 30-day readmission rate of 13.8%, compared to 22.5% among similar patients before the team’s intervention. Massachusetts General Hospital

Interpretation for your use: This supports the value of specialized psychiatric/substance-use consult services (one of your service lines) in reducing readmissions.
Consideration: It’s specific to SUD consults at MGH, not all psychiatry services.
