Every session is led by clinician-researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry. These are just a few of the topics the series addresses:

  • Novel approaches to treating depression.
  • Effective strategies for treating psychosis in the context of mood disorders
  • Diagnosis and treatment of Mood Disorders in patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Mood Disorders and sleep.
  • Mood Disorders and substance use.
  • Bipolar Disorder or ADHD? Implications for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Pharmacogenomics testing for refractory depression

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify novel and innovative evidence-based psychopharmacological strategies for treating depression.
  • Review contemporary strategies for assessing and managing sleep disorders in the context of mood disorders.
  • Review the current evidence-based assessment and treatment of schizophrenia and psychosis in the context of mood symptoms.
  • Review effective, research-driven strategies for identifying and treating opiate use disorders and other substance use disorders in the context of other psychiatric disorders.
  • Recognize bipolar disorder in the context of ADHD.
  • Describe the role of ECT and rTMS in the treatment of psychiatric illness.
  • Recognize and manage barriers to effective treatment of mood disorders including symptoms of fatigue, anorexia, and others.
  • Review the benefits and limitations of pharmacogenetic testing to guide choice of pharmacotherapy in the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
